Ward 7 Reads Extravaganza
Ward 7 Reads is collecting books--20,00 of them!--to ensure each elementary school student in Ward 7 has at least one new book of their very own. This will help address the fact that literacy in Ward 7 is the lowest in the city: under 50%.
Octo Consulting Group, Oliva Consulting, Project 7 Refocus and the Ward 7 Education Council are coordinating this effort.
The Ward 7 Reads! Extravaganza takes place on Veteran's Day (November 11). We'll sort books for educators to distribute in their classrooms. We will also have information for parents on the school lottery, reading programs and after school programs. Parents should bring the entire family for a day full of food, moon bounces and educational activities for kids.
- Date: November 11, 2013
- Time: 10am – 2pm
- Location: Smothers Elementary School, 4400 Brooks St., NE Washington, DC 20019
The Extravaganza is the culmination of the community book drive which sought to collect 20,000 books, one for each elementary school student living in Ward 7.
